Binocular Vision and Stereopsis! (Three dimensional depth perception!). This
is the very epitome of all of our sensorial abilities! and of almost all living
organisms --from humans to the lowest! It is the "sign of the PREDATOR!"
-which we surely are! (Or would you rather be PREY!)
This remarkable system which provides us with depth perception and a single
three dimensional view and appreciation of the world around us from the input
of two very separate eyes is our fascinating subject .
And THIS is the internet home of a medical scientific periodical
devoted to binocular eye alignment and vision in humans and to problems (and
the treatment thereof) affecting them. These binocular vision problems
are binocular misalignments, "strabismus" (Greek for crooked) (eyes)
like crossed eyes or wall-eyes, [the ocular equivalents of automotive "toe-in"
and "toe-out"] or amblyopia (Greek for blunted vision), or "lazy
eye" where vision is poor in one eye from disuse from avoiding double or
confused vision in strabismus or when there are optical inequalities in
the two eyes.
This quarterly periodical publishes information and research articles by medical
and healthcare professionals with particular interest in binocular vision and
strabismus including eye M.D.s and surgeons (ophthalmologists), pediatric
ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists. The articles published here
are by and intended for such professionals, and not for laypersons or patients.
To obtain the names of eye M.D.s specializing in management of these problems,
especially in kids but also in adults, we suggest contacting the AAPOS at www.aapos.org
